Signs you need a diagnostic
- The check-engine light is on. If it’s flashing, call us before driving far.
- New noises, smells or vibrations
- Rough idle, stalling or hard starts
- Worse gas mileage than usual
- Fluid spots under the car
What a trouble code tells us
When the check-engine light comes on, your car stores a trouble code. The code tells us which system reported a problem, such as a sensor, the ignition or the emissions system. It doesn’t always name the broken part. That’s why we test the system before replacing anything, so you pay for the repair the car actually needs.
Keep up with maintenance
Regular maintenance prevents many of the problems we see. Your owner’s manual lists when your car needs oil changes, filters and fluids. Bring it in, or tell us the year, make and model, and we’ll help you see what’s due.
How long it takes
We start by reading the trouble codes and checking the system they point to. Then we call you with what we found and a quote before any repair. Simple repairs are often done the same day.
A check-engine light can make your car fail its emissions test, so have it looked at before your inspection.
